" This is a great cookie to satisfy that chocolate and vanilla urge all in one.  It's crisp and chewy at the same time -- kids love them "
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg beaten (but not bruised) :-)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1-3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 squares (1-1/2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease cookies sheets.

Cream the butter and sugar.

Add the egg and vanilla and blend well.

Stir together the flour and salt.  Add to the creamed mixture and blend well.

Divide the dough in half, in two separate bowls.  Add the melted chocolate to one half and blend well.

To make each cookie, drop a teaspoon of vanilla dough onto the cookie sheet and a teaspoon of chocolate dough right next to it.  Use a fork or spoon to push the two drops lightly together.

The easiest way to turn out a cookie sheet full of double drops is to put all the vanilla drops down and then put all the chocolate drops next to them.  Be sure to leave about 2" between the cookies.

Bake for 10 minutes.  Let the cookies cool for a minute and then transfer to wire racks to finish cooling.

Makes 2-1/2 dozen
