Brown Rice and Veggies

Posted by: Carolyn Jo - July 7, 2001

Cook 1 cup brown rice according to package directions. Allow to cool and add 1 pound mixed veggies. Toss and freeze in plastic bags.

I double the recipe and use 1 pound regular mixed vegetables (peas, green beans, corn, limas, carrots) and 1 pound of stir-fry vegetables (asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, bell pepper - the greater the variety, the better). I have small birds as well as large birds, so I use a heavy knife and chopping board and break the frozen veggie pieces into smaller ones before I mix them in.

Brown rice is eaten by the pickiest of birds, and if you have trouble getting veggies into your bird, you can process the frozen vegetables almost to a puree and mix with the rice. If they like the rice, they generally will not turn it down because of the vegetable flavor.
