Buy multi-bean soup mix or mix your own using 1 lb. bags of navies, pintos, baby limas, black turtle beans, kidney beans, garbanzos, black-eyed peas and any others you find.

Soak 2 cups mixed dried beans overnight in cold water, drain and add fresh water for cooking. Add 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes and 1 tablespoon dehydrated minced garlic or 2 to 3 tablespoons minced fresh garlic (or the pre-minced you buy in jars). Bring to a boil, then lower heat to a simmer for an hour or so. Rinse 1/4 c. dried green split peas and 1/4 cup dried lentils, add to pot and simmer for another half hour.

Optional addition: I purchase premium pigeon grains containing no cracked corn from the feed store and add 1/2 cup to the beans for soaking. A good pigeon grain will have milo and various peas, plus a little whole popcorn, but no cracked corn. When done, cool, drain and package in plastic bags and freeze.
